The Breath That Speaks

YHWH

Last Sunday, I went for an event expecting the usual…

…worship, prayers, dance, lots of dance😁 and the Sermon. You know the drill.

But then, one guy came up for spoken words, and I promise you, I was left awestruck. You know when someone speaks and it feels like time stops? That was it.

He spoke about something I had never thought of before — YHWH.

Now, most of us grew up saying “Yahweh.” We sang it, we prayed it, we heard it in church songs. But the truth is, YHWH was never meant to be pronounced with vowels. It’s not really a “word” in the way we think of words. It’s actually closer to… a breath.

Think about it: when Adam was created, his very first act wasn’t speech, it was breath. His lungs filled with life, and the sound of that breath was the name of God. YHWH. And when life leaves us, our final act will be the same… not words carved in stone, not prayers written in books, but the whisper of His name leaving our lungs.

That hit me like a thunderclap.

It means every breath we take is a reminder: God is here.
Your sigh is prayer.
Your gasp is confession.
Even your silence speaks His Name.

And isn’t that comforting? That the One who holds galaxies in His Hand chose to hide His Name in something as ordinary as our lungs? That means you don’t have to “feel holy” before you know He is near. Even when fear squeezes your chest, or life tries to choke you 😂, every inhale and exhale still says:

  • Inhale: Come.
  • Exhale: I am here.

So if you’ve been feeling far from God lately, or maybe too burdened to even pray, pause right now. Take a deep breath in. Release it. That’s not just oxygen filling your lungs… that’s YHWH reminding you He never left.

And when the time comes for our last breath, won’t it be beautiful to know the final word we speak is the first Name we ever carried?

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
He is closer than you think.

“When was the last time you paused to notice God in your breath?” Now, here is another chance to do it… now. 😁

Waking up every morning and realizing that I’m still alive has been a chance for me to recognize the grace of God in my life – especially in my breathing in and out because that’s a gift of His life to me.
