Reflective Sunday:

Rest Is Part of the Work

Some days, I sit in front of my screen for hours…
Tapping keys. Clicking tabs. Searching for momentum.
And yet, nothing truly gets done.

Not because I’m lazy.
But because my mind is tired… even if my body isn’t.

Have you ever felt guilty about needing rest?
Like rest is something you have to earn?
Like needing a break means you’re not strong enough, serious enough, spiritual enough?

I’ve been there too.
Until I began to understand this truth:

Rest is not a weakness. Rest is part of the work.

Even God Rested

When God created the heavens and the earth,
He worked for six days, and then, He rested.
Not because He was tired, but because rest was part of the design.

“And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.”
Genesis 2:2

He could have kept going. But He paused.
And in doing so, He modeled a rhythm for us.

If the Almighty paused, not out of exhaustion but intention, then who are we to think we can pour without ever refilling?

Jesus Himself modeled this balance.
In the middle of healing crowds, calming storms, and teaching multitudes…
He still withdrew to lonely places to pray and recharge (Luke 5:16).

He showed us that solitude, silence, and rest aren’t distractions,
They are direction.

Rest Is Strategy, Not Laziness

So now, I’m learning to include rest in my plans.
Not as a backup or an afterthought…
But as a strategy.

  • Short breaks
  • Power naps
  • Unplugging from screens
  • Saying “not today” and meaning it

Because clarity doesn’t come from chaos.
And brilliance doesn’t bloom in burnout.

This Is Me, Choosing Balance

I don’t rest because I’m giving up.
I rest because I’m gearing up.
I rest because God called it good.

So this is your reminder, and mine:
Your most productive self isn’t the one who never stops.
It’s the one who knows when to pause, and how to return stronger.
